Is she in the Modern World?

I took this picture last June, it is a picture of little trade that was running by Eveline. She’s an 11 year old girl living in my area. I had some talk with her during last June especially the day that I took the picture. Eveline is one of the children who lives in poverty every day, and she’s like other children who don’t have access of education.
She is growing up in family of 8 children and she is the youngest. Her mother sells mangoes and avocados especially when their season is on.Eveline was taking over the commerce when her mother couldn’t sit along the street to sell.

Eveline did not go to school during last academic year. She sits along the street selling mangoes. She told me school is important but due to lack of possibility that her mother has, she can’t attend school. For this new academic year, nothing does not change for Eveline and even for other children in my area. Eveline is not going to school for this new academic year. She can’t not read and write. Education is the biggest matter that can change Haiti. Many children don’t go to school while this world has lots of resources. Is it fair to talk about GLOBALIZATION, DEMOCRACY, and TECHNOLOGY in this kind of life?

Those children are growing up meantime they can’t read and write. They don’t even have the basic education to overcome certain thing. We all know that education makes life better and it helps us to take decision for our lives. In other words, Education is development. I remember I asked Eveline if she had opportunity to go school what would she like to be? She replied “I’d like to be someone who works in hospital or clinic, I said doctor or nurse, oh doctor she said.

I want to ask a question here, why Eveline’s dream can’t remain? Her dream would be important for Haiti and for the world in the next years. Eveline is not going to be only a citizen of Haiti but a citizen of the world. Every child has a dream in this country but this dream is far to realize .
I have done an overview concerning how many children who have access to school this year in my area, it was done during last week after the opening day. The situation remains the same. NO SCHOOL!

I want to start a program that could help the children with their education in my area. I call this program “ HELP DREAMS”. I am asking everyone here to do something that could help those children finding their dream. Before ending this post I want to be thankful to Dr John and Maria Carroll, Dr James and Jane Ebel and Helen Quade. Please feel free to contact me, hopeful to hear from you soon for this program. The children need you.

EDUCATION CAN CHANGE THEIR LIVES!
It’s not impossible, it is possible when they get opportunity.

  1. Did you ever get another camera? The more you show and make it real to people, the more they will respond.

Your English is excellent and I think you can make a program work.

Try to set-up a PayPal account so that people can make donations online - or do so through one of your supporters.

It is a legitimate use of donations to obtain a camera and pay for your web access.

The more you work at telling the stories in detail of the people you want to help - the more involvement you will get.

Show us the children. Tell us about them. Tell us about the schools and what it costs. Let people, make donations to accomplish specific tasks.

So many of the big NGO's leave people who would like to help feeling like they don't know if a donation really does anything but pay for some executive's expensive lunch.

Keep blogging and tell us more stories. Set up a way to donate.

  2. For example, could you show us and tell us more about Eveline and her family? What would it cost to pay for her to go to school? Is there a way to help her mother improve or expand her business selling mangos and avocados - or to set her up in a better business? Do you wish to be a teacher and set up a school for these kids yourself? What would you need?

Also almost any 'point and shoot' digital camera will also shoot video you can upload to YouTube and link to your blog. Connection speeds may be too slow for watching videos easily in internet cafes in PAP but most of your potential donors can watch them easily. It may be well worth the upload time - to help get your message out.

I appreciate that you don't have much money but paying your basic living expenses as well as the cost of being a journalist are appropriate uses of donations. Set up a way to donate online and work at this and you can make progress.
